CYCAS Circus is Far North Queensland’s professional youth circus troupe formed in 2004 by founder and director Patti Burnheim. Our performances and workshops incorporate circus skills including stilt walking, unicycling, diabolos, poi, plates, fire twirling, juggling, hula hoops, acrobalance, clowning, aerial and much more.
We aim to educate, inform and inspire youth to accomplish something positive for themselves, while creating an interactive experience that encourages young people to value team spirit and appreciate a love for physical activity. The troupe brings students of all ages, sizes and abilities together, enhancing their growth and development physically, mentally, emotionally and socially.

The latest trend in the fitness craze: a fusion of dance, yoga, flexibility, core, conditioning and balance, while realigning your body and decompressing your spine. Aerial Yoga is a wonderfully relaxing exercise technique. Many of the positions will be familiar if you’ve practised traditional yoga in the past, however we add a new dimension to the stretches when using the silks. This type of exercise is great for any age, and particularly helpful for those with spinal compression issues as the inversion helps to separate the vertebrae.
Aerial Silks & Fitness
$20 per class • 6 visits for $100 with Adult class passA fantastic form of art and exercise combined into one. Learn the circus-inspired wraps and tricks, while getting fit and flexible. Training on Aerial Silks is an extreme core workout. You’ll be using muscled you didn’t know you had, and using them hard! In this class, students learn methods to climb the silks, apply various locks to hold themselves in place, create incredible poses in the air, and once advanced enough can even learn to perform drops. It’s important with this type of strength class that you keep up your training – there’s an old saying in circus, that one day off is two days lost. There’s another important saying as well… if it doesn’t hurt, it ain’t circus!
Our trainers are skilled in a wide range of circus activities, so you can also choose to learn to unicycle, walk the tightrope, hula hooping, fire twirling, lyra, poi, juggling, stilts – anything we have in the studio, you can learn to use
